About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Corporate Services Manager is responsible for leading and managing all activities within the Corporate Services Work Unit at Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS). This includes providing key managerial support in areas of financial & stakeholder management; human resource management, project management; business support and development; and the overall operational efficiency of PAMS.

About You

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Possess a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline i.e. Human Resources, Business and/or Finance;
  • Proven experience in a similar role managing operations across multiple sites over a large demographic area;
  • Sound financial management skills, including budget preparation and the ability to interpret and apply financial and accounting practices and procedures;
  • Sound human resource management skills, including the ability to develop and / or apply human resource management practices and systems;
  • Substantial experience in the development, review and implementation of policies and strategies with a sound understanding of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and processes.
  • Demonstrated achievements in and a thorough understanding of best practice standards of governance and the planning and provision of support to governance committees and management.
  • Strategic thinking and planning skills with a clear focus on an organisational approach to social, economic and environmental wellbeing.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including negotiation and consultation skills and the ability to proactively establish and sustain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Highly developed written communication skills including the ability to write clearly and concisely, prepare complex written reports and manage the output of quality information.
  • Effective organisational skills, the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced skills in office computing applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software i.e. PowerPoint or similar.
  • Ability to work well and foster a strong working relationship with the Board of Directors.
  • A proven ability to foster strong relationships and work collaboratively with diverse communities to inform decisions, planning, strategy and action.
  • Results focused approach with the ability to identify and act on opportunities to improve short and long-term performance.
  • A clear capability in driving accountability and effective performance measurement at both an individual and organisation level.
  • Some financial management and budgeting skills to support PAMS business goals and objective.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

In addition to the above, the desirable criteria are:

  • The person identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is acknowledged as such by their community.
  • Possess a post graduate qualification in management, business or other relevant field.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with remote Aboriginal communities and make a drastic impact to the health and well-being outcomes of these communities.

PAMS operates five sites, supported by a range of clinicians, community health workers and other ancillary workers. Although the successful candidates will have a substantive location (Newman) they must be prepared from time to time to work across any one of these sites should they be required.

PAMS operates in some of the most remote parts of Australia and staff are required to be proficient at driving a 4WD vehicle and willing to fly in light aircraft.

About the Organisation

With an administrative hub based in Newman, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, The Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) provides holistic primary health care and community health programs services to the individuals and families within Newman and the remote communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji.

PAMS has over 700 registered clients, with most being Martu. Services offered include health education and promotion programs and initiatives, as well as the monitoring and management of ongoing health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, ante-natal & post-natal care and child health.
