Project Youth, established over 28 years ago, is a Non-Government, not for profit organisation based in Southern Sydney, providing support and assistance to young people who are homeless or facing disadvantage. Project Youth's vision is to create a future where all young people can thrive regardless of the disadvantage they face. To do this Project Youth provides trauma-informed support for young people aged 12-24 who have complex needs, are at risk, come from disadvantaged backgrounds and may not be able to fulfil their potential without additional support.

Our work is in three main areas:

  1. Homelessness and Housing: Accommodating young people in crisis and supporting transition into independent living or returning to their family home
  2. Early Intervention: Intervening early to reduce and stop escalation of issues
  3. Education, Employment and Training: Providing pathways to employment and education

THE ROLE:

Y Housing Youth Support Worker (Crisis Refuge Full Time) The role will be based in Pennys Crisis Refuge - Penshurst, Sydney.

The role is full time 38 hours per week on a rotating roster including overnight, weekend shifts and public holidays and is paid at SCHADS award level 4.

THE PERSON:

We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic and talented individual with a strong work ethic and collaborative work style, to join our team.

You will be required to work on a rotating roster within the Crisis Refuge team. You will work closely with the Coordinator and small refuge team, case manage young people in crisis situations, manage house dynamics, supervise daily activities, contribute to the overall running of the house and to generally assist young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through broad and flexible service models. Experience working in a youth homelessness setting will be highly regarded.

Essential criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications in Youth Work or other related Social Science qualification
  • Drivers Licence and own vehicle
  • Possess a minimum of 1 year proven youth work experience / residential youth work experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed practice
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of youth related social issues and service models
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to the principles of equity of access, cultural diversity, client service and accountability
  • Experience and skills in case management
  • Excellent computer and literacy skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to juggle a number of assignments at the same time, to react quickly, to meet deadlines, to organise a busy workload and to prioritise tasks
  • Ability to work with in a team and support colleagues
  • Understanding of EEO and WHS requirements

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience of using and analysing data from a client database
  • Experience of liaising with external agencies

All Project Youth employees are required to undergo a National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Check by the relevant State and Territory Government(s) as a condition of employment.
