Therapy Assistant / Tutor / Home Support Worker - Bundaberg

Private Advertiser

We are seeking a caring and responsible person who can provide in-home support for our two children.

The person we seek will be mature, kind-hearted, open and honest, with a genuine love for little people and be able to stay in this role for the longer term.

This is a role for someone who is very confident of their direction in life, has a strong interest in working with children and is looking for a slower paced role, working only approx 20 hours per week (Mon-Fri). This role requires flexibility as the hours may change from day to day, and would NOT suit someone looking for a second job.

One of our children has developmental delay and requires one-on-one assistance with learning-focused Therapy at a Early Childhood level. A knowledge of the special needs/disability sector would be an advantage.

Our older child requires support with school activities in a ‘tutoring’ capacity. Good knowledge of general education subjects such as maths and english is important (but the suitable applicant DOES NOT need to be a teacher or teacher's aide) but needs to be comfortable providing learning support at a Primary level.

We take care to support our children's natural curiosity about the world and encourage them to be open with their emotions. We are seeking a person who is comfortable with answering young questions with care and diplomacy and able to support young minds and hearts as they explore the world around them. We encourage our children to express their emotions (fear, love, anger, distress etc) and would be seeking a person who is comfortable with human emotional needs.

One of our children has strict dietary requirements so the successful applicant needs to have an appreciation and respect for the importance of adhering to our family's dietary requirements. A personal interest in health and wellbeing would be a strong advantage.

The role involves assisting the children with learning activities, caring for the children, preparing simple meals, supervising the children as they play and occasionally transporting the children to an activity.

The hours involved are daytime hours, on weekdays, and typically in 4-5 hour shifts. Occasional early starts (eg 7 am) would be involved. Night work is very rare, only required if both parents are attending an event at night time. We are not able to work around University or other work commitments, so please don't apply if you have a set schedule and are only available at certain times.

The role would suit a person who is only looking for ONE part-time job, is highly flexible during the day with their availability, has an interest in education/therapy, health and wellness and who is very comfortable with the emotional needs of children. If you have another job and are looking to supplement your income with a second job, this role is not suitable for you.

No formal education is required but experience in Therapy Support / Special Needs / Tutoring / Home Support / Nannying would be an advantage. A blue card is required but can be applied for after you have been short-listed for the position.
