PosAbility Australia is seeking an educational consultant, teacher, tutor or clinician with a special interest in providing Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment and intervention for children with learning difficulties or other special needs. PosAbility Australia is a registered charity that operates a unique centre combining the expertise of experienced special educators, teachers, psychologists and other allied health professionals. PosAbility offers a range of quality educational and psychological services to pre-school and school aged children.

Casual, part-time and full-time roles will be considered for the right applicants.

The role offers;

Primary Objective: To provide high quality educational consultancy, assesment and intervention services to clients and families. To work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to develop resources, services and programs to support children with learning difficulties and other special needs.

Essential Criteria

  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Education, Speech Pathology, Psychology or related field
  • Experience and additional training or qualifications in providing literacy and/or numeracy intervention or learning support to children with learning difficulties, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD and/or Autism
  • Thorough knowledge of assessment and evidence-based treatment of Specific Learning Disorders, including Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia
  • Current Working with Children Check and Criminal Record Check (or able to get one before commencement)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written language skills
  • Proficient technology skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Available to work a minimum of three days, including at least two days including after school hours

Desirable Criteria

  • Postgraduate degree in Special or Inclusive Education, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy or Psychology
  • Registration as a teacher with the Institute of Teaching or with AHPRA as a Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist or Psychologist
  • Maths and/or High School teaching or tutoring experience
  • Experience in working with children with a range of special needs, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety
  • Experience in using standardised assessments
  • Experience in delivering educational programs through online technology, such as Microsoft TEAMS
  • Experience with Direct instruction programs

The Key Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Develop and deliver literacy and numeracy intervention programs to children that are behind in their reading, spelling, writing and/or Mathematics skills.
  • Use a range of evidence-based programs and methods.
  • Apply positive behavioural strategies to motivate, engage and manage students.
  • Conduct and score a range of standardised and diagnostic one to one assessments
  • Create SMART goals for each student and regularly revise and evaluate these
  • Monitor client’s progress through regular review of goals and standardised assessment
  • Write placement and review reports
  • Liaise with parents to provide feedback regarding the students’ progress
  • As required, liaise with other professionals and school staff working with each student to communicate goals and strategies of the program
  • Participate in training and ongoing professional development
  • Provide administration support in the running of the clinic in relation to the onboarding of new clients and transition of clients to a new consultant or other service
  • Ensure that positive and productive relationships exist between clinic, the local community, and families
  • Participate in regular professional development opportunities to keep up with current developments in the field of learning difficulties
  • Ensure compliance with our duty of care to clients.
  • Ensure services meet quality service standards, and contract agreements.
