About the Organisation

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more. City of Port Phillip has zero tolerance for child abuse and is a committed Child Safe organisation.

About the Role

Sustainable Port Phillip is one of Council’s five strategic directions. Council is recruiting a number of key roles to join a team of highly skilled professionals who are passionate about environmental sustainability and experts in their field.

This position has a focus on improving the sustainability of private buildings in the municipality through the application of Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD) principles and policy during the statutory planning process.

The successful applicant will be responsible for building the capacity of the organisation to implement best practice Environmentally Sustainable Development, including improving collaboration, providing advice to staff and the development community.

Duties:

  • Deliver high quality and timely professional advice and support to internal and external stakeholders to deliver on Council’s sustainability objectives.
  • Develop, review and deliver Council’s Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD) policies, guidelines and practices.
  • Develop and maintain external partnerships to improve sustainability outcomes in the built environment.

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary degree in Architecture, Planning, Sustainable Development or similar discipline.
  • At least 5 years relevant experience in planning, environment, sustainability, urban design or other relevant discipline(s)
  • An excellent knowledge and understanding of Victoria’s planning system, its application at the Local Government level and the ability to effectively communicate and apply this information
