Must be available Monday and Thursday, have good communication and organisational skills, an understanding of youth issues and the ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds. The person should have or be studying towards relevant tertiary qualifications. Position to commence February 2022.

about us

The Port Kembla Youth Project is a not-for-profit community organisation that provides information and support to young people aged 12-24. Programs focus on providing opportunities for skills development, engagement, mentorship and resilience building, recognising the cultural diversity of our local area.

We work with young people in Port Kembla and surrounding suburbs including Kemblawarra, Primbee, Warrawong and Windang PKYP works with young people (12-24 yrs) in the Port Kembla geographic area. Developing their resilience and emotional confidence to address issues of social and economic disadvantage and help them find positive pathways for the next stage of their lives.

about the role

To work with young people between the ages of 12-24 years by maintaining existing programs and plan and implement new programs for the area. Must be available Monday and Thursday. Probationary period applies.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or currently studying towards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting young people
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, evaluating and coordinating programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in submission writing, administration and computer literacy.
  • Understanding and ability to use digital platforms, social media in a professional setting.
  • Familiarity with community management practices.
  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain within three months).
  • Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Working with Children Check.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of other services relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to cultural diversity and social justice.

The position involves working with young people and therefore it is an offence under the NSW Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998 for a person convicted of a serious sex offence to apply for this position.
