Through the Business Development and Assistance Program, administered by the Business Solutions Branch, IBA helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to start, acquire and grow commercially viable businesses by providing pre-business guidance, business finance, business development and business support at all stages of the business life cycle.

About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Relationship Manager manages a portfolio of small to medium size businesses (and their loans) during any stage of the business and loan life cycle. This is done in accordance with IBA policy and procedure and with particular emphasis on improving emphasis on monitoring and supporting business performance, identifying, and supporting business growth strategies and credit risk management activities.

The main responsibilities of the role are to successfully:

  • Manage a portfolio of small to medium sized business loan accounts.
  • Support and develop business skills and the continued improvement in business operations.
  • Identify potential growth opportunities for existing customers.
  • Monitor business performance to optimise success.

About you

As Relationship Manager, you will be experienced in entrepreneurship and small business development, business finance and management of customer relationships. You will also have experience in analysing financial statements, reports, and other information in assessing a loan application with an overall interest in promoting Indigenous economic empowerment. You will be able to undertake regional and remote travel as required, including overnight absences at least once each month. Tertiary qualifications in accounting, business, or commerce or at least 5 years’ experience in small business, accounting, banking, finance, insolvency, or debt recovery is desirable.

Selection Criteria

  1. Awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and culture as well as the demonstrated ability to liaise, communicate and negotiate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous individuals and communities.
  2. Awareness and understanding of Australian Indigenous issues particularly as they relate to small business.
  3. Experience in the small to medium size business sector with a high standard of portfolio management and customer focus
  4. High level of business acumen and knowledge & understanding of business concepts/operations/management, business development, financial analysis and commercial lending and the ability to discuss business needs, risks and formulation of strategies and implementation of solutions with customers and delegates.
  5. Significant ability to negotiate confidently and communicate with influence, clarity and ability to understand and adapt to an audience.
  6. Extensive knowledge of legal concepts together with a strong working understanding of commercial transactions, securities, and litigation processes.
