About the organisation

Operational since February 2014, the Aboriginal Governance and Management Program (AGMP) provides high quality culturally based governance & management support to Aboriginal organisations across the Northern Territory. The AGMP was established by APO NT (Aboriginal Peak Organisations Northern Territory). The program is entering a new chapter of growth and development looking to scale up its service offering towards the program’s objective of increasing the capability and capacity of Aboriginal organisations in the NT. About the role

The AGMP Manager will be responsible for all aspects of program management, engagement, advocacy, strategic partnership and business development for the APO NT Aboriginal Governance and Management Program (AGMP). This position will travel to remote communities throughout the NT for meetings and to support engagement, partnerships and capacity building activities with Aboriginal Boards. In addition, the Manager will contribute to APO NT’s strategic policy and advocacy work on behalf of the Aboriginal community-controlled sector.

About you

You will be a highly skilled and strategic First Nations leader with prior experience in program management, business and enterprise development skills. You will have a thorough understanding of the complex governance and management challenges facing Aboriginal community-controlled organisations throughout the NT, and the significant value and importance of Aboriginal community-controlled service delivery towards achieving self-determination. You will bring knowledge and experience in participatory, cross-cultural training and capacity building, competency in strategic partnerships, high level advocacy and engagement and superior communication skills. You are passionate, adaptable and thrive in a dynamic work environment. You will be creative and innovative in your approach to scaling up the program towards meeting the governance needs of Aboriginal organisations.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Superior knowledge of the NT Aboriginal Affairs sector and the key issues affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory
  2. Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience and skills in program management, strategic business development and/or governance and leadership
  3. Firm commitment to Aboriginal community control and self-determination
  4. Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and approaches
  5. Highly developed strategic, analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills combined with a demonstrated ability to write clear and concise advice, submissions, briefing papers and reports
  7. An exceptional ability in stakeholder engagement and an ability to influence decision making.

Role requirements

  • This is an Aboriginal identified position
  • Willing to undergo a criminal history check and obtain a Working with Children Clearance.
  • Current manual Driver’s Licence
  • AGMP is a COVID-19 safe workplace and follows the NT Chief Health Officer’s direction in relation to the COVID-19 vaccination mandate. Therefore, you will need to be fully vaccinated.
  • Proficient IT skills including competency in Microsoft and Google suite.
