About the role

This role will lead TEQ’s efforts to drive demand for Indigenous tourism experiences throughout Queensland via destination and experience development, marketing and events. Collaborating with government and industry stakeholders, the role will also support activity to grow and develop new and existing Indigenous tourism product and events. The role will also provide strategic advice to the TEQ CEO, and Executive team on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs, including in relation to the ongoing development and delivery of TEQ’s Reconciliation Action Plan.

About you

As the Events and Experience Director, you will have strong networks and connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities, along with highly developed community engagement and project management skills. You will have knowledge of Queensland’s tourism and events industry and have established relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across this industry. Ideally, you will have experience with all aspects of budgeting and financial management, have a strong track record leading teams and be commercially astute with a well-developed understanding of Government – including at State, Federal and local levels – particularly in relation to Indigenous policy in the context of tourism in Queensland.

Tertiary qualifications in Arts, Business, Tourism, Event Management, or related discipline would be great to have.

Selection Criteria

  1. Highly developed cultural competency achieved through experience in connecting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities.
  2. Demonstrated experience working in the tourism and events industry at a management level.
  3. Extensive experience in a leadership role, with a particular focus on negotiations with community and industry stakeholders.
  4. Strong analytical, strategic thinking and planning skills, including the ability to interpret research and strategic data and formulate/implement action plans.
  5. High level written and verbal communication skills.
