This is an identified role suitable for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only.
Seed is Australia's first and only Indigenous Youth Climate Network. We are building a movement for climate justice led by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, together with impacted communities, to win campaigns that protect our country, culture and the climate. Since we launched in 2014, Seed has grown from a handful of First Nations young people to a national grassroots network of over 250 volunteers leading change in their communities across the country. We believe that First Nations leadership and self-determination is critical in building and sustaining strong, resilient communities where everyone can thrive.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Communications Director is a key senior leadership role in the Seed staff team, providing high-level strategic leadership, support, and direction across all communications, creative content development as well as traditional and digital media.
In this role, you will manage Seed’s Communications Team and work in close collaboration with all other areas of the organisation to ensure we are delivering consistent, compelling, and values-driven communications that cuts through and connect with our audiences. This includes supporting our staff and volunteer leaders to be confident spokespeople, whilst also collecting and curating powerful content that is highly shareable, educational and offers entry-points for actions to have impact. The Communications Director is a key contributor to shaping the public narrative on climate change.

As Communications Director, you will manage the development and implementation of Seed’s communications and media strategy. This will require a strategic balance of both proactive and reactive approaches, that will include everything from pitching media stories, to coordinating content across our online channels, developing key messages and hard-hitting copy to support with big tech and data projects to enhance the impact and effectiveness of our campaign, movement building and organisational goals.
Ideally, you will be willing and able to travel (in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions) and obtain a Working with Children Check or state/territory equivalent. It would be a bonus if you also had skills relating to videography and/or graphic design.
Formal education and qualifications matter less to us than excellence, initiative, and drive. If even a couple of these criteria speak to you, you could be the candidate we’re looking for and we’d love for you to apply!
