This is an identified role suitable for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only.

About the organisation

Seed is Australia's first and only Indigenous Youth Climate Network. We are building a movement for climate justice led by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, together with impacted communities, to win campaigns that protect our country, culture and the climate. Since we launched in 2014, Seed has grown from a handful of First Nations young people to a national grassroots network of over 250 volunteers leading change in their communities across the country. We believe that First Nations leadership and self- determination is critical in building and sustaining strong, resilient communities where everyone can thrive.

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Campaigns Director is a key senior leadership role, providing high-level strategic leadership, support, and direction across all our campaigning and organising with frontline communities for climate justice.

In this role, you will manage Seed’s Campaigns Team and work in close collaboration with all other areas of the organisation to ensure we build the power of our First Nations youth-led movement for climate justice. You will manage the development and implementation of Seed’s campaign strategy. This will require a strategic balance of both proactive and reactive approaches, that will include everything from research and information gathering, building, and managing internal and external relationships with campaign collaborators and community stakeholders, inspiring and providing resources for our volunteer network and other related projects to enhance the impact and effectiveness of our campaign, movement building and organisational goals.

About you

You will have 2+ years proven experience in a campaigning and/or advocacy leadership position, with a demonstrated track record of designing and leading successful campaigns for social, legal, or political change. This will be supported by 5+ years of relevant professional experience.

Ideally, you will be willing and able to travel (in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions) and obtain a Working with Children Check or state/territory equivalent.

Key Selection Criteria

Formal education and qualifications matter less to us than excellence, initiative, and drive. If even a couple of these criteria speak to you, you could be the candidate we’re looking for and we’d love for you to apply!

  • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young person with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
  • Demonstrated experience of developing and executing well-thought-out campaign strategies that have a big impact in creating real world changes
  • Experience managing a high performing team (staff or volunteers) and have strong people management and leadership skills
  • Exceptional ability to build & manage trusting relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders including affected communities & campaign partners
  • Ability to implement continuous improvement strategies and projects to enhance overall efficiencies, effectiveness, and reliability
  • You are self-motivated, responsive, and flexible with a proven ability to work independently and with a team, with competing deadlines, time pressures and priorities
