Pilbara Community Legal Service Inc. (PCLS) is a not-for-profit community legal service that provides a range of services to the Pilbara community including legal assistance, financial counselling, tenancy advocacy and support, domestic violence advocacy and support, migrant settlement services and redress support services. PCLS is a well-established and highly valued part of the Pilbara social infrastructure with offices in Karratha, Roebourne, South Hedland and Newman.

Reporting to the Principal Solicitor, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing support to the legal team and other service delivery workers as required.

Essential Criteria

1. Relevant experience in a legal firm or community legal organisation
2. Exceptional legal research and written communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
3. Excellent client service skills with the ability to interact sensitively and effectively with a broad range of stakeholders including Aboriginal and CALD clients, community groups, Government and Non-Government agencies.
4. Outstanding organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure, prioritise workflows and manage deadlines.
5. A strong commitment to social justice and access to justice issues.
6. A positive and professional manner and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
7. Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and an understanding of issues facing Aboriginal people, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
8. Current ‘C’ Class Drivers License

Desirable

1. Experience in family law, restraining orders, criminal injuries compensation, wills and estates and other areas of civil law
2. A relevant tertiary qualification or progress towards completion
