The Pilbara Community Legal Service Inc. (PCLS) is a non-profit, government-funded community organisation that provides a range of free services which include legal advice, Redress financial counselling, tenancy advocacy and support, domestic violence advocacy and support and migrant settlement services. PCLS is an inspiring, professional and challenging environment to work in, and is a well-established and highly valued part of the Pilbara social infrastructure with offices in Karratha, Roebourne, South Hedland and Newman.

The primary responsibilities of this position is to improve the safety of women and children who are escaping domestic violence, provide wrap-around support in collaboration with other relevant service providers, deter perpetrators from re-offending and facilitate the collection of admissible evidence to improve justice responses.

A key function of this role is to formulate early intervention and prevention strategies aimed at breaking the cycle of family and domestic violence and preventing women and children becoming homeless following domestic violence.

To be considered for this position you must possess the following ten (10) essential requirements:

  1. Degree / Diploma in Social Work, Social Sciences, Community Services, Human Services, Health Sciences and / or relevant demonstrable experience commensurate with the position.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of issues facing victims of Family and Domestic Violence living in the Pilbara, including an understanding of safety issues for victims.
  3. Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and an understanding of issues facing Aboriginal people, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  4. Highly developed time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and to apply contemporary problem-solving techniques through effective case management to assess, inform, advise and support clients.
  5. Excellent interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal).
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; along with the ability to understand and apply the use of other database systems relevant to this position.
  7. Ability to interact sensitively and effectively with a broad range of individuals including Aboriginal and CALD clients, community groups, Government and Non-Government agencies.
  8. Current ‘C’ Class WA Driver’s Licence.
  9. Working with Children Check or be eligible to obtain one
  10. National Police Clearance Check or be eligible to obtain one
