The Public Interest Advocacy Centre is a leading social justice law and policy centre. We build a fairer, stronger society by helping to change laws, policies and practices that cause injustice and inequality.

PIAC offers a dynamic workplace where wellbeing is promoted, and flexibility supported.

The Energy and Water Consumers’ Advocacy Program (EWCAP) promotes better decision-making in relation to energy and water supply in NSW. It draws on expertise in energy and water systems, public policy and government and business processes to influence laws and policies, so that all households have access to clean, resilient, and efficient energy and water services.

Reporting to the Program Director and working closely with the rest of the EWCAP team, the Policy officer/Senior Policy Officer will use expertise in research and analysis to develop and advocate for policy and regulatory solutions to issues related to household energy supply in NSW. Your day-to-day work includes:

  • drafting submissions, media releases and other collateral;
  • supporting the planning, development, and execution of PIAC’s energy projects;
  • building and maintaining relationships with consumer and community organisations, industry, regulators, government, and other key stakeholders; and
  • supporting the promotion of efficient household electrification as part of a just transition to a zero carbon energy system.

You are passionate about representing consumer and community interests, and understand the urgency of achieving a zero carbon energy system that is affordable to everyone who relies on it. You have experience in public policy, research, development and/or advocacy. Ideally, you have a good knowledge of Australia’s energy and/or water industries. Your skills include:

  • policy analysis and project management;
  • ability to draft and contribute to influential submissions to government inquiries;
  • awareness of the issues faced by socially and economically disadvantaged communities;
  • media and social media engagement.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
