Moray and Agnew and the Public Interest Advocacy Centre have partnered to provide this unique opportunity.

Moray & Agnew is one of Australia’s leading specialist law firms with over 650 Partners and staff nationally. As part of Moray & Agnew’s pro bono commitment, this position is a 24-month secondment to the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, to support PIAC’s work to advance PIAC’s priorities and strategy for working with First Nations people and communities.

Reporting to the Principal Solicitor and working as part of PIAC’s strategic litigation team, you will contribute to public interest litigation, legal policy and advocacy. Additionally, you will:

  • Assist to identify barriers to justice and implement legal and policy advocacy strategies
  • Provide legal assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients
  • Contribute to drafting submissions, reports, media releases

You are admitted as a lawyer, can demonstrate your commitment to social justice with 0-3 years PQE and capacity to:

  • Manage competing demands and deliver high-quality results on time
  • Undertake legal research with strong writing skills
  • Achieve outcomes individually and within a team
  • Work with clients from a broad range of backgrounds

This position is intended as a special measure for the purposes of s 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and the subject of an exemption granted under s 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
