The Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the CEO, and a key member of the internal Leadership Team, the Manager Corporate Services plays a critical role in assisting the Penington Institute achieve its strategic objectives.

You will have responsibility for all Corporate Service functions (finance, compliance, risk management, HR, IT and office administration) and be part of a positive, energetic and dedicated team (10 staff in total) who are passionate about Penington’s mission to actively support the adoption of approaches to substance use that promote safety and human dignity.

Based at Penington’s heritage offices in Carlton, the role offers flexibility and a great work environment.

The Person:

You are likely to be an experienced finance professional who has also had experience managing other corporate services functions such as risk and compliance, HR and IT.

You are at a stage in your career where you are looking to step back a little but still wish to be professionally active. You have a desire to give back to society by undertaking impactful, cause based work. You enjoy being hands-on across the breadth of finance but also like to contribute in other areas of an organisation where you can add value.

The Role:

The Manager Corporate Services plays a broad and critical role in the successful operation of Penington Institute. While the primary focus is on finance, the incumbent is also responsible for the effective and efficient operation of a number of other functional areas including compliance, risk management, HR and IT.

As a small organisation, a hands-on approach and a willingness to chip in and get things done are essential requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

Leadership:

  • As a member of the internal Leadership Team, contribute to the development and effective delivery of the Institute’s program of work
  • Provide strategic and operation leadership for all corporate services functions
  • Attend and advise at team, committee and Board meetings, as required

Finance:

  • Prepare annual budgets and cash flow forecasts for individual projects and the overall organisation
  • Prepare monthly and statutory financial reports in accordance with applicable requirement
  • Manage engagement with, and provision of information to, external auditors
  • Together with program managers, develop robust project budgets and ensure these are reflected in organisational budget
  • Support program managers in monitoring financial health of their projects
  • Manage, monitor and report on cash and other investments in line with Institute’s Investment Policy
  • Oversee the efficient and effective operation of all financial management systems

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Manage the institute’s risk management and compliance program
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, legislative and procedural obligations, including WHS obligations

Information Technology:

  • Oversee the efficient and effective operation of all IT systems
  • Oversee the implementation of initiatives to mature the institute’s digital footprint
  • Monitor IT performance and requirements and identify required upgrades and maintenance

Other:

  • Manage administration officer, bookkeeper and outsourced IT provider
  • Manage the organisation’s HR system

Remuneration:

A competitive salary package will be offered to the successful candidate commensurate with experience (full salary packaging benefits are available).
