  • Hours: Full Time 37.5hrs p/week
  • Initial 6 month contract, with likelihood of extension
  • Remuneration: SCHADS Level 5, paypoint 1 ($76,979 P/A plus super and leave loading – total package approx. $85K pro rata for 6 month period)
  • Responsible to: Executive Officer

Organisation: Who is the Physical Disability Council of NSW?

The Physical Disability Council of NSW (PDCN) is the not-for-profit peak representative organisation of and for, people with physical disability across New South Wales. 

Join our small but dynamic team as our Policy lead, helping to build empowered, inclusive communities for people with physical disabilities throughout NSW through advocacy, education, information and capacity building initiatives.

Role Overview:

A problem solver with an analytical mind who can influence and affect change, the Policy Officer is responsible for leading PDCN’s systemic advocacy and policy position development, as well as preparing policy responses and submissions, and proactively lobbying government and other stakeholders on the needs of people with physical disabilities.

Duties and responsibilities;

  1. Analyse and identify emerging policy issues and priorities within the disability sector
  2. Provide strategic advice to CEO on policy direction and development
  3. Develop policy papers, position statements, briefings, reports and written submissions
  4. Develop and maintain networks and relationships
  5. Facilitate opportunities for discussion between Government representatives on key policy issues, ensuring PDCN influence the agenda on a State and National level
  6. Coordinate internal research and analysis in relation to policy development
  7. Other projects and duties as identified by Executive Officer

Essential criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Policy, Social Sciences or equivalent related field
  • Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to produce formal responses and submissions to tight deadlines
  • Articulate oral communication skills, able to represent PDCN’s policy positions to key stakeholders in Government, through the media, advisory panels and other forums
  • Highly developed advocacy, analytical and negotiation skills
  • Experience researching and deciphering Government policy and legislation
  • An understanding of NSW Parliamentary operations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in using Microsoft Office suite

  • Experience working in a not for profit or disability environment
