Parkville College is a multi-campus college spanning the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct, the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct, The O-Street Flexible Learning Campus and the Secure Welfare Units in Maribyrnong and Ascot Vale. It is the only Victorian Government School that operates 52 weeks per year.
Parkville College is a registered specialist school that delivers senior secondary certificates for all children and young people detained in the custody of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and Department of Health and Human Services.
The Parkville College Model follows a culturally responsive pedagogy that supports the development and growth of all students, offering the Victorian Certificate in Applied Learning and access to Vocational Education. In recognition of the custodial environment and existing educational disadvantage, the school program includes weekends and term breaks to enhance the learning opportunities for the children and young people in Custody and Secure Services.
Parkville College recognises that it serves a population of young people who have experienced, and continue to experience, interpersonal and sociopolitical adversity and trauma. For this reason, Parkville College has an established staff wellbeing program that offers group and individual wellbeing support to all staff in order to prevent the potential for vicarious traumatisation, cumulative harm and stress associated with the workplace.
Part of the staff wellbeing program delivery is ICALD specific wellbeing support. Parkville College is committed to increasing the diversity of its workforce and acknowledges that this development must be accompanied by school wide cultural safety practices and targeted supports. For this reason, Parkville College follows a Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and provides ICALD staff members access to specific individual and groups wellbeing programs led by an appropriately skilled and experienced counsellor. This position will provide individual and group sessions across the metro campuses and the Malmsbury Campus. It will report to the Staff Wellbeing Team Leader.
SC1. Qualifications, knowledge or experience relevant to supporting the wellbeing needs of employees working in complex settings.
SC 2. Demonstrated understanding of the concept of cultural safety and an understanding of the wellbeing needs of employees who identify as indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse (ICALD).
SC3. Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver individual and group wellbeing sessions in a range of contexts.
SC4. Demonstrated experience working systemically with young people and/or families.
SC5. Demonstrated ability to develop support plans and/or treatment plans for staff members requiring intensive wellbeing support.
Education support class Level 1 Range 4
Education Support Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource, delivery of professional student support services and/or clinical management and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations. Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.
Professional student support positions at this level will carry out their duties and responsibilities, relative to their professional discipline, with a higher level of autonomy and with minimal reliance on professional supervision. This position would generally be filled by an experienced professional. At this level a position would be responsible for the development and implementation of professional support programs within an educational environment, including guidance to other professional staff.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee’s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
