The Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) is seeking applications for an Editor for its new professional journal, Psychotherapy & Counselling Today.

PAFCA is the leading peak body for the counselling and psychotherapy profession in Australia with a mission to advance counselling and psychotherapy. As part this mission, PACFA publishes Psychotherapy & Counselling Today, in printed magazine format, to provide PACFA members and a broader reading audience with stimulating and informative reading on psychotherapy and counselling in Australia. The publication is of value to practitioners, educators, researchers and students to support ongoing professional learning. In 2019, PACFA published one edition of the new publication but we are aiming to build the journal up to two editions a year. The journal includes articles, columns and book reviews and, going forward, there will be a peer-reviewed section which will re-publish peer-reviewed articles from PACJA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Journal of Australia) which is PACFA’s research journal.

The Responsibilities of the Editor of Psychotherapy & Counselling Today will include:

  • soliciting material for publication in the journal;
  • liaising with authors about articles and editing articles to publication standard;
  • liaising with the Editor of PACJA in relation to peer-reviewed articles from PACJA to be reproduced in Psychotherapy & Counselling Today;
  • seeking advice from the PACFA Research Committee on editorial decisions (when required) relating to the content and focus of Psychotherapy & Counselling Today;
  • liaising with the PACFA Office which designs the journal to; and
  • continually improving the quality of the journal.

Applicants are expected to be professionals from the counselling and psychotherapy field or from a related profession. Applicants will strong professional writing and editing skills evidenced in relevant, high quality publications, and a track record of collegial team work with successful outcomes. They will ideally have experience editing a counselling or psychotherapy journal and a higher degree in research, preferably in counselling or psychotherapy, would be highly regarded.
