Course Accreditation Adviser - Flexible location

Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia
  • Education expertise in counselling and psychotherapy
  • Senior part-time role – salary negotiable
  • May be located anywhere in Australia

The Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) is seeking an education expert for the role of Course Accreditation Adviser to support the development of PACFA’s Course Accreditation scheme which accredits education programs in counselling and psychotherapy.

PACFA is the leading peak body for the counselling and psychotherapy profession in Australia and a professional association for practitioners, educators, students and related professionals. PACFA currently accredits 40 courses across 28 institutions in the higher education and VET sectors.

PACFA’s Education Program Accreditation Committee (EPAC), which is made up of volunteers with expertise in counselling and psychotherapy education, is currently responsible for PACFA’s course accreditation scheme. EPAC accredits counselling and psychotherapy training programs with the professional support of the Course Accreditation Adviser.

In 2021, EPAC is to be redeveloped with the role of the Course Accreditation Adviser to grow as PACFA course accreditation is further professionalised. Under the redevelopment plans, the policy framework for PACFA course accreditation will be the responsibility of a new Committee to be formed in 2021 but decisions on accreditation applications will continue to be the responsibility of Accreditation Panels made up of course accreditation experts.

The Course Accreditation Adviser will liaise with training providers in relation to applications to accredit counselling and psychotherapy programs with PACFA, applications to re-accredit programs and mid-cycle accreditation reviews. The Course Accreditation Adviser will review applications and provide advice to the Panels considering the applications. The role will also contribute to the development of the policy framework for PACFA course accreditation scheme.

The role of Course Accreditation Adviser is aimed at further professionalising PACFA’s course accreditation scheme. The role will initially be on a casual basis as the hours will be variable but the role is expected to develop into a permanent part-time role later in 2021 as PACFA’s course accreditation scheme goes through redevelopment.

This is an opportunity for some-one with experience of course accreditation processes in the higher education and/or VET sectors to make a contribution to a growing organisation in the counselling and psychotherapy education field. Ideally, applicants will be academics with relevant qualifications and experience. The position is home-based so may be located anywhere in Australia.

A position description is attached.
