Our Watch is a national not-for-profit established in 2013 to drive nation-wide change in the culture, behaviours and attitudes that lead to violence against women and their children.

ABOUT THE ROLE

On 1 July 2019, the Tasmanian Government launched Safe Homes, Families, Communities: Tasmania’s action plan for family and sexual violence 2019-2022 (Safe Homes, Families, Communities), a three-year, $26 million action plan to prevent and respond to family and sexual violence features an increased focus on primary prevention. It includes establishing a nation-first Our Watch Primary Prevention Officer in Tasmania, to build the State’s capacity on primary prevention and the skills and capacities of the primary prevention workforce both within and beyond the Tasmanian Government.

Reporting to the Manager, Policy, and located in the Department of Communities Tasmania, the Our Watch Senior Advisor (Tasmania) will provide expert primary prevention policy and practice analysis and advice to the Department of Communities Tasmania and other relevant Tasmanian Government agencies.

The role will help drive and support the Tasmanian Government’s emerging work on primary prevention, including the primary prevention components of Safe Homes, Families, Communities, and ensure that this work is informed by Our Watch’s evidence base and organisational expertise. The role will also seek to identify ongoing opportunities for Tasmania to contribute to Our Watch’s mission to drive nationwide change to prevent violence against women.

ABOUT YOU

The Our Watch Senior Advisor (Tasmania) will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in: gender studies, public policy, social or political science, health promotion, community development, or other area of relevance or equivalent lived experience
  • Experience working on the prevention of violence against women and/or gender equality (in a policy, research or practice role)
  • Experience in providing evidence-based policy analysis and advice to decision-makers
