About the role and its impact

We are seeking applications for a part-time International Student Peer Worker. This position is fixed term position available until 31 May 2021.

Based at Parkville, you will initially commence work remotely from home. All applications will be accepted within the state. You must have confidential home office space and reliable internet connection.

We believe that all young people deserve to grow into adulthood with optimal mental health. Everything we do is focused on that outcome, pioneering new, positive approaches to the prevention and treatment of mental disorders.

As the International Student Peer Worker, your contribution will be to assist in developing an introductory peer work training package and create digital content specifically for international students. A major component of the role requires sharing your own lived experience of mental health and experience studying as an international student in Australia.

You will be provided with training and supervision in the principles of peer work and in the effective facilitation of training. You will work with the project team and alongside external partners and international students to develop the training. Working alongside a Clinical Educator, you will then deliver training to groups of international students. 

Remuneration is dependent on skills and experience; NFP generous salary sacrificing opportunities are also available to the successful candidate.

About you

As the International Student Peer Worker, you will have:

  • Lived experience of mental ill health and experience studying as an international student in Australia
  • Willingness and ability to share own experiences around mental health and wellbeing as an international student
  • Broad understanding of peer support programs available to people accessing mental health services
  • Confident public speaker with the ability to engage with a broad range of people in group settings
  • Willingness to learn relevant administrative procedures, including software applications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
