The Social Worker will provide professional social work services, including psychosocial assessment, social case work, discharge planning, work with families and carers and community liaison work, while gaining specialist skills and experience in assessment, acute treatment and support and other interventions for people with mental health problems and their family/carers.

We have an exciting new opportunity within a newly purpose-built Youth Prevention & Recovery Care (YPARC) centre.

As a Social Worker (Grade 2), you will:

  • Work with YPARC team to improve screening, identification, assessment and discharge planning of young people presenting with mental ill-health
  • Provide specialist consultations, assessments and evidence based Social Work interventions to assist in better outcomes for young people and their family/carers
  • Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, to provide Social Work specific services
  • Assist in the provision of primary, secondary and tertiary consultation services, community development and education, liaison and linkage to other agencies that also provide support to young people with mental illnesses

This is a full time (1.0FTE) permanent position.

What you’ll need

You are passionate, energetic and determined to make a difference to health and wellbeing outcomes for young people. The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

  • An approved degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers and/or Accreditation as a Mental Health Social Worker
  • Previous relevant Social Work experience in a mental health or acute hospital setting and/or related field
  • Experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness and preferably with young people presenting with mental ill-health
  • Experience and well-developed skills in the range of Social Work interventions including work with individuals, families and groups, consultation and liaison
