About the role and its impact

We are seeking applications for a Family Peer Worker Development Lead. This position is fixed term and available until mid-November 2021 with the possibility of renewal dependent on funding. 

Based at our headspace Centres and Parkville Hub, you will initially commence work remotely from home. You must have confidential home office space and reliable internet connection.

We believe that all young people deserve to grow into adulthood with optimal mental health. Everything we do is focused on that outcome, pioneering new, positive approaches to the prevention and treatment of mental disorders. 

As the Family Peer Worker Development Lead, you will lead a team of casual family peer workers to provide support to family and friends (FAF) of young people aged 12-25 who are accessing services for their mental ill-health.  You will also provide some of this support directly to families. This may be face-to-face, by telephone or using video conferencing platforms.

You will also develop and provide training to support the family peer workers and staff to provide quality services to those they are working with.  

As a guide, remuneration of $71,550 - $76,965 per annum (pro rata) is offered, dependent on skills and experience; NFP generous salary sacrificing opportunities are also available to the successful candidate.

About you

  • A personal experience of supporting a child, young adult family member who was experiencing challenges with their mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drugs and/or work and study
  • Demonstrated experience in providing peer support or supporting others using their own lived experience 
  • High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people, families and stakeholders
  • Capacity to problem solve effectively, engage and work creatively with other staff, families and carers.  
  • Capacity and willingness to conduct training and group programs with staff, family members and carers. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team. 
  • A commitment to improving the way services are delivered for young people and their carers/family.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people
  • Confidence to advocate for themselves and families in a clinical environment
  • Highly organised, with the ability to work autonomously and prioritise work tasks
