The Opportunity

Knowledge Translation is seeking a Clinical Consultant/Educator to provide support to mental health practitioners working with young people with intellectual disability. Our team has been funded by the Dept of Education and Training to provide point of care advice to mental health practitioners employed across Victoria state secondary schools. The rollout of this initiative now includes practitioners in specialist schools, with a focus on supporting practitioners who work with young people with complex physical, neurodevelopmental and intellectual disability. The role and your impact

The Clinical Consultant/Educator is a specialist role in our workforce development team, providing great opportunities to broaden and develop project management and consultation skills within a supporting, positive workplace culture. The role joins a broader team of clinical consultants and educators working to provide practice support and advice to mental health practitioners working in secondary schools across Victoria. This role will primarily provide support to practitioners employed to support students in specialist secondary schools, and build capacity internally to respond to requests for advice from mainstream schools.

You will:

  • Provide advice and consultation to mental health practitioners employed under this initiative through the mental health advice line to support best practice, appropriate assessment and referral for specialist support.
  • Lead activities and develop resources to support internal workforce capacity building in relation to issues of mental health and intellectual disability and neurodevelopmental issues.
  • Provide leadership and support to a multidisciplinary team of clinical consultants/educators in relation to intellectual disability and neurodevelopmental issues.

About you

You are passionate, energetic and determined to make a difference to health outcomes for young people. In addition, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology, occupational therapy, mental health nursing or social work.
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or equivalent registering authority
  • An advanced level of skill in youth mental health practice and intellectual/neurodevelopmental issues, including assessment, case formulation and intervention across a range of diagnostic categories, demonstrated experience at a senior clinician/clinical coordinator or extensive clinical experience within an autonomous role.
  • Experience in providing secondary consultation to mental health practitioners or significant clinical experience in building workforce capacity around mental health and intellectual disability/neurodevelopmental issues.
  • A robust knowledge of the rationale, current evidence base and treatments for early intervention in youth mental health.

Salary and benefits

Depending on your skills and experience, a salary of $100 - $110K p.a. (pro rata) is offered plus superannuation and access to generous NFP salary packaging.
