Opportunity International Australia is seeking a creative, skilled and passionate Communications Coordinator to help Opportunity end poverty one family and one community at a time. The Communications Coordinator will focus on publications and content creation, work within the Communications team, and assist the wider Philanthropy department. The role is best suited to someone with solid graphic design skills and a strong writing and storytelling ability—and an overwhelming desire to do good in the world.

THE ROLE

Working alongside the National Communications Manager and the Digital Coordinator, the Communications Coordinator will engage key Australian audiences to raise awareness about the issue of poverty and Opportunity’s work in poverty alleviation. The Communications Coordinator will play an ‘allrounder’ Communications role within Opportunity and have a particular focus on content creation including writing high-quality content for the Opportunity website, social media platforms and publications. 

The Communications Coordinator will utilise their graphic design skills to drive publications and develop collateral and publications support. Preferably, the Communications Coordinator will have basic video editing skills to contribute to building Opportunity’s online video presence.

Additional focus will be given to media and PR opportunities, brand knowledge and adherence across the organisation.

The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the National Communications Manager to maintain, update and implement the Communications Strategy to support the wider organisational strategy and help achieve the organisation’s objectives.

YOUR SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in similar role within not-for-profit/NGO sector
  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, PR or similar
  • Exceptional oral and written communications
  • Experience with InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience managing website &/or social media platforms

Desirable 

  • Experience with Premiere/FinalCut
  • Video production knowledge and experience
  • Interview skills
