Outdoors People for Climate (OPC) is looking for 1 individual to strengthen our board of directors as we continue to grow. This is a voluntary role which requires management and implementation of the day to day operations of OPC. As a relatively young and recently incorporated organisation, we’re looking for a values driven and highly motivated person to help OPC achieve our goals for 2022 and beyond. OPC is looking for someone to work within the existing vision and strategy of the organisation whilst bringing passion, innovation and great new ideas. The role will require the successful applicant to be a major contributor to the operations of OPC.

About OPC

OPC is an Australia-wide grassroots group made up of outdoor enthusiasts and workers. We work within the climate movement to call for greater action on climate change and a national plan to reduce climate pollution this decade. OPC helps to engage and activate the Australian outdoor community and outdoor industry by communicating the impact of climate change on the outdoors and providing the resources to make taking action easy and effective.

OPC is entirely volunteer run and has been driven by a small group of dedicated and passionate outdoor people.

About the Commitment

  • Minimum 1 year term
  • Minimum 6 hours per week (average)
  • Active participation in board meetings and operational meetings
  • Engagement with board and operational work

About the Role

As an executive director, you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with other OPC directors to oversee and implement OPC’s operations
  • Overseeing specific projects and managing grants
  • Working with the volunteer team and individual volunteers
  • Ensuring adherence of the organisation to the OPC constitution
  • Developing and reviewing strategy to ensure alignment with OPC purpose, vision and values
  • Maintaining compliance with relevant statutory laws and regulations
  • Consistently attending and actively engaging in board and volunteer team meetings (virtual)
  • Engaging with online communications in a timely manner

About You

Our ideal applicant would meet the following criteria. Please apply even if you don’t meet all of the below points:

  • Passionate about tackling climate change and protecting the outdoors
  • Excellent communication skills, outgoing, compassionate and approachable
  • Have a passion for the Australian outdoors and outdoor recreation
  • Experience in non-profit governance
  • Campaigning or organising experience within the climate or progressive movement
  • Willingness to go above and beyond and volunteer in an OPC operational capacity
  • Networks useful to the development and growth of OPC
  • Basic understanding of accounting and finance concepts
  • Strong technological skills and ability to use a variety of digital platforms
  • Looking to join a board or previous board experience
