Outdoors People for Climate

About Outdoors People for Climate Action (OPCA)

OPCA is an Australia-wide grassroots group made up of outdoor enthusiasts and workers. The climate and ecological crisis, through worsening extreme weather events and impacts to biodiversity, is harming the places we love and our ability to access the outdoors for work and play. Our mission is to protect the outdoors in the face of the climate and ecological emergency by driving bold action in the outdoor community. We work with outdoors people and outdoor businesses to create positive change.

About our work with outdoors people

Our goals are to:

  1. Sound the alarm - inform people who love the outdoors about how the climate crisis will affect outdoor places and our ability to enjoy them;

  2. Empower bold action -  help outdoors people take effective climate action in their lives, communities, workplaces and beyond;

  3. Build our community - connect climate-engaged outdoors people with each other and the wider climate movement; and

  4. Speak out for the outdoors - make sure that decision makers hear the outdoor community's unique concerns.

Our work: We're working to inform and inspire outdoors people and make taking climate action easy, by providing informative content and practical resources on social media, our website, our blog and through regular newsletters and emails. We give presentations, appear on podcasts and enter submissions into public inquiries. We work in collaboration and aligned with other climate groups. We're working towards connecting face to face with outdoors people through events and tabling, growing our political impact and becoming a not-for-profit organisation.
