This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic organisation in an exciting and challenging role. This NSP role would suit someone with sound management experience with a background in community engagement, ideally within peer organisations as a worker or volunteer, and has sound knowledge of harm reduction principles. The position will be primarily located at NSP at 345 Crown Street.

This is also a call out to peers and those with specific interest and experience in this type of peer-led work, as there is other positions and roles available to the interested applicant. Information to be supplied.

Organisation

NSW Users and AIDS Association (NUAA), a peer-based drug user organisation. We work with people who use or have used drugs and people who are engaging with health services. NUAA’s mission is to improve the health, welfare and dignity of people who use drugs. More information can be found at www.nuaa.org.au.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise on issues affecting people who use or have used drugs in NSW
  • Provide frontline peer-led Needle and Syringe Program services following the principles of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion
  • Be a conduit for the community of people who use and inject drugs to ensure issues and actions relevant to the community are voiced appropriately effectively and in a timely manner
  • Supervise and oversee Workers and Volunteers in our NSP according to NUAA NSP Policies and Procedures and Undertake duties that require knowledge of procedures, guidelines and/or statutory requirements relevant to NUAA
  • Promote healthy work ethic by leading as a Peer Role Model utilising professional standards and quality interpersonal interaction at all times
  • Promote the NSP service as a key agency, operated through peers, that enables the dignity rights and health of people who inject/use drugs
  • Promote the NUAA/KRC Open Clinic On Crown (OCOC) to/for people accessing the NSP and others that may benefit from clinic access.
  • Ensure Open Clinic On Crown KRC staff and other research connected individuals and organisations, are always supported in a professional manner so the highest standard of service is offered to NUAA clients accessing these services and/or projects.
  • Exercise a high level of interpersonal skills in dealing with the public and other organisations.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection issues facing people who use and or/inject drugs
  • Demonstrated sound verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Ability to build relationships with a variety of community and other stakeholders
  • Experience planning and implementing projects
  • Drug use knowledge and experience on some level
  • Work to deliver NUAA's strategic aims and program/project goals, under our Code of Conduct

Desirable

  • Qualifications and/or experience relevant to the role
  • NSW Drivers Licence
