Overview of the role:

NUAA is a peer-based organisation for people who use drugs in NSW. Our organisational mission is to advance the health, human rights and dignity of pprojeceople who use or have used illicit drugs.

We are seeking a dynamic leader to join our dedicated team in a management role. The successful applicant will report directly to the CEO and will have oversight of community development programs including the dynamic DanceWize NSW program.

The person we are seeking will have considerable experience in the harm reduction or alcohol and other drug sectors and demonstrated experience in drug user organising or similar community-based settings. We will also consider applicants for an Associate Director role depending on experience in both work and within the community.

Position Objectives:

  1. Oversight and line management of the DanceWize NSW program including the event coordination team as well as casual and volunteer staff.
  2. Ensuring that the DanceWize NSW program of work operates effectively within the NSW Music Festival guidelines and meets all other program requirements
  3. Ensuring a proactive approach to risk management in DanceWize NSW and other areas of the organisation with a focus on employee and volunteer health and well-being
  4. Strategic advice and support of NUAA’s advocacy agenda
  5. Assist, as part of the executive team, that the strategic and operational goals of NUAA are met in a timely and ethical manner
  6. Assist, as part of the executive team, in engagement with external stakeholders on key policy issues
  7. Ensure timely evaluation and reporting on project outcomes
  8. Lead the development of new training packages in response to emerging internal/external strategic priorities.
  9. Strategically supporting the development of community networks
  10. Support ongoing organisational quality improvement
  11. Work flexibly and strategically within the management team.
  12. Proactively identify organisational risks and contribute to the NUAA policy environment

Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated experience in project initiation, delivery and evaluation including demonstrated ability plan and budget projects and then work within agreed timeframes and projects
  2. Experience working in harm reduction or alcohol and other drug sectors
  3. Demonstrated outstanding communication skills across a variety of settings and audiences including presentation skills at conferences and meetings, communication with peers and working with funders.
  4. High level written communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated leadership in people management.
  6. Demonstrated high level skills in policy development
  7. High level computer skills
  8. Ability to work flexible hours and to travel within NSW as required.
  9. Current Australian Driver’s License.
  10. Identification as a peer or involvement in the music festival industry
