NPY Women’s Council (NPYWC) was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

NPYWC has been successful in securing MRFF funding for research into food insecurity on the APY Lands of Central Australia. The research project aims to improve nutrition related service delivery and is stage one of a two stage research agenda.

We are now recruiting for a Senior Research Officer experienced in qualitative research to lead and guide the implementation of this project with guidance from the project governance committee, research institute partner and relevant NPYWC staff. This is a full time, fixed term role for two years, subject to funding.

This position presents an exciting and unique opportunity to work alongside senior Anangu, including the NPYWC Uti Kulintjaku team, to develop a culturally appropriate methodology and data collection approach. In addition, you will have the opportunity to train and support local Anangu researchers in research processes and methods as well as the role of human research ethics.

Critical to the success of the project will be your ability to work in partnership with Anangu and ensure community involvement, engagement and participation throughout the research project. With the ability to genuinely listen and allow ownership of knowledge you will also be well organised and an excellent communicator.

We are looking for someone with demonstrated skills in qualitative research from conception through to community feedback. You will ideally have experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples or culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations.

You will work within a supportive, trauma informed framework and have the opportunity to learn community development and intercultural liaison from highly skilled, experienced professionals.
