Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region in central Australia. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

The NPY Women's Council’s Youth Service works with children and young people (aged 10-25) and their families living in the NPY region and is integral to the work we do. The Youth Service model is based on four key components: Case Management, Leadership and Education, Youth Diversion and Recreation, and Advocacy.

The Kulintja Palyaringkunytjaku (KP) program supports young people, their families and communities to learn positive ways of thinking about issues such as healthy relationships, substance use, mental health and other associated harms. The focus of the KP project is to support NPY Women's Council youth workers, young people and community members in the NPY region to understand and respond appropriately to these topics.

We are now recruiting for a KP Project Officer to work with communities in Western Australia, utilising a community development framework that involves Anangu and Yarnangu in all stages of planning, designing and delivering activities, and consultation and collaboration with senior community members, Ngangkari and cultural leaders to respond to issues affecting young people in the region.

You will facilitate regular bush camps and workshops, and work with other youth workers, Anangu and other service providers to deliver weekly early intervention, preventative and therapeutic responses for young people engaged in, or at risk of violent relationships, substance abuse, mental health issues and other associated harms.

The successful applicant will have relevant tertiary qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Development or related human services, or a willingness to obtain these. Experience in youth work or related work is preferred and experience working with remote youth will be highly regarded.

This is a unique chance to work for an organisation that takes a grassroots approach to community development. You will live, work and build lasting relationships within a remote community and get to experience an amazing landscape and part of the world. This is an extraordinary opportunity to learn about yourself, Anangu culture and to grow professionally at the same time.

You will work within a supportive, trauma informed team in an organisation which provides a comprehensive orientation program. You will receive best practice supervision and professional development that includes training in vicarious trauma, case management and four-wheel driving. We also provide critical incident de-briefing and a range of counselling services to support you.

In addition to this, we offer a generous remuneration package. You will receive an above award salary, salary packaging benefits, 32 days of annual leave, 15 days of personal leave (to care for you and your family) and a retention bonus. We also provide NPY Women's Council accommodation and use of a company vehicle when travelling.
