Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Disability Project Officer to join our Tjungu Team. The Tjungu Team provides support, advocacy, and case management to people with disabilities, elderly people, and their carers and families.

The Disability Project Officer works in a malparara (side-by-side) partnership with an Aboriginal Disability Project Officer. Together they are responsible for the coordination and development of the NPY Women’s Council’s Ngaanyatjarra Lands area WA Disability Service. This Service aims to increase the independence and participation of people with disabilities in community life.

The position is based in the aboriginal community of Wingellina, WA, returning to our head off in Alice Springs every six to eight weeks for supervision, case reviews, personal tasks and supplies. Wingellina is very close to the NT and WA border. Surrounded by tall gums and beautiful mountain ranges, the community enjoys modern facilities such as medical services, schools and a store.

You will work within a supportive, trauma informed framework and we provide a comprehensive culturally aware 3-month orientation program. You will receive best practice clinical supervision and professional development that includes vicarious trauma, case management and four-wheel drive training. We also provide critical incident de-briefing and a range of counselling services to support you.

In addition to this we offer a generous remuneration package. You will receive an above award salary, additional superannuation, salary packaging benefits, 32 days (pro rata) of annual leave and 15 days (pro rata) of personal leave. You will also benefit from fully furnished NPYWC accommodation, free utilities, phone and internet allowance, and use of a company vehicle.
