The Tjungu team provides support, advocacy and case management to ngaltutjara tjuta – people with disabilities, elderly people, and their carers & families. Tjungu philosophy and principles support the rights of older people and people with disabilities to live in their community so that family and relationships, as well as spiritual and physical connections with country, can be maintained.

About the role

We are now recruiting for a National Disability Insurance Scheme Appeals & Disability Royal Commission Advocacy Project Officer to join the Tjungu Team based in Alice Springs. This position works in a partnership with an Anangu (Aboriginal) Project Officer and together they are responsible for the coordination and development of the NDIS Appeals & Disability Royal Commission Advocacy Project. The Projects aim to provide support and representation to people with disabilities through culturally appropriate advocacy, identifying broader issues from casework and ensuring that people with a disability have access to information.

The ideal person will have professional experience in Community Development, Health or Disability, and are passionate about working alongside Anangu people. You will be able to work independently and have an understanding of working across different cultures. In addition, the right person will have the ability to think outside the box and be resourceful when under pressure. Ideally, you will also have knowledge or an interest in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and cross-cultural environments.
