No to Violence is a peak body which works with men who use family violence and offers support to help them to change their abusive and violent behaviour. We are growing our national footprint and have a number of Full -time, Part- time and Casual, six-month fixed term opportunities - with a projected end date of 31 Jan 2021 for family violence counsellors to join our organisation. The role operates on rotating roster, spanning 7 days a week

The role:

Men’s Family Violence Counsellor will engage through inbound and outbound telephone calls with men who use family violence. The role is responsible for engaging with men to create awareness around the impact of their behaviour with a potential goal of him making more positive choices. This work is vitally important, towards creating sustainable social change within family violence and involves completing risk assessments, referrals, and escalations to manage complex clients. No to Violence has a strong focus on supervision and self-care to support counsellors who take on this work. All successful applicants will be provided with extensive training and development.

Key selection criteria

  • Specialist knowledge and skills and prior experience providing male family violence services, including intake and risk assessment
  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or equivalent, or a diploma in similar with extensive experience in the family violence sector or closely related field
  • A demonstrated understanding of the social and gendered context of family violence and the impact of violence on women and children
  • Experience in the delivery of counselling or case management services either face to face or over the telephone
  • Experience in assessing and responding to clinical risk
  • Personal commitment to the practice and principles of non-violence, justice, social inclusion, and gender equity issues
  • Ability to work independently and part of a wider team
  • Understanding of intersectionality and how it applies to the work of a Family Violence Counsellor.
  • Experience as specialist men’s family violence practitioner
