About the Role:

Over 2020-2021, the NSW Government has provided funds to improve the safety of rough sleepers across NSW to secure homes from the private rental market. The aim of the multimillion dollar Together Home project is to deliver stable housing and wrap-around support for people experiencing homelessness.

NCCH has delivered the project in the Northern Rivers region in collaboration with specialist homelessness services and healthcare workers. In 2020 we successfully housed 25 vulnerable people.

This is a critical program in our organisation’s portfolio and we are needing qualified Case Worker’s to ensure continuity of services. This current opportunity advertised is to join our Together Home Case Worker Talent Pool.

The objective of the Case Worker is to work as part of a delivery team to provide wrap around case management based on Housing First principles to a targeted group of people who have been rough sleeping. The key focus of the role is to support people entering the Together Home (‘TH’) program to transition from DCJ temporary accommodation to permanent housing.

This an opportunity to join a Talent Pool for any fixed term, full-time vacancies that arise over the coming 12 months. Any positions filled will be based in Lismore and Tweed with semi-regular travel to Grafton.

About You:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent Human Services tertiary qualification
  • Demonstrated experience in the social housing sector and homelessness, and a positive history of working with vulnerable people
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering a responsive service to people with complex needs
  • A commitment to the principles of Housing First:
    • People have a right to a home
    • Flexible support for as long as is needed
    • Housing and Support are separated
    • Choice and self determination
  • A commitment to person centred practice, commitment to social justice and social inclusion
  • Have a current Working with Children Check and a valid National Police Check, or willingness to obtain this
  • Possession of an unrestricted NSW driver’s licence.

Selection Criteria

  1. Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent Human Services tertiary qualification
  2. Experience in the social housing sector and homelessness
  3. A positive history of working with vulnerable people
  4. Demonstrated experience in delivering a responsive service to people with complex needs
  5. Advanced communication and engagement skills including: negotiation; emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills
  6. Demonstrated capacity to work both as an effective team member and, to take initiative and work autonomously when required
  7. Demonstrated ability to model and maintain cultural competence in delivering services
  8. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with a wide range of human service organisations providing specialist support to TH participants
  9. Ability to work with Person Centred approaches and the Housing First Principles to in all aspects of work practice
