About the organisation

The Noosa Shire was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2007 for the high value of its natural environment and a community committed to sustainable development. The Noosa Biosphere Reserve Foundation Ltd (NBRF) is a charitable organisation, established by Noosa Shire Council in 2015 as a company limited by guarantee and trustee for the Noosa Biosphere Reserve Trust, a charitable public fund.

The role of the NBRF is to manage the Trust, and progress projects aligned with the aims of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Program. The NBRF Board identify “Big Ideas” related to the sustainable management and conservation of our land, water, wildlife and people & economy in the Noosa Biosphere Reserve through engagement with stakeholders, experts and community groups.

Some of the exciting initiatives currently under development include expanding wild koala conservation and research, sustainable agriculture, instigating a marine species protection pilot, supporting two USC PhD student projects: the Blue Biosphere and Forest Conservation, and continuing Glossy Black-Cockatoo research project. About the role

The Noosa Biosphere Reserve Foundation (NBRF) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced and qualified individuals to fill future vacancies on the NBRF board.

The skills-based Board is made up of eight volunteer Directors, appointed for terms of up to three years, who collectively guide the direction of the Foundation and liaise with project stakeholders.

Board meetings are held once a month, a minimum of 10 and maximum of 12 times per year, including the AGM which usually takes place in November. Directors are also expected to nominate for at least one Sub-Committee which meets approximately once a month.

The NBRF aims to focus on increasing our social, cultural and economic project portfolio and encourage candidates with experience and connections in these areas to apply.

Candidates with experience in corporate finance, legal, governance &/or fundraising will be highly regarded.
