The Organisation

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement. As the largest independent not-for-profit human rights organisation in Australia, ASRC programs support and empower people seeking asylum and refugees to maximise their physical, mental and social wellbeing. As a movement, ASRC mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change.
ASRC is opening a new Integrated Service Hub (ISH) in Dandenong, Victoria with a goal of creating access to diverse services and programs that increase the wellbeing of people seeking asylum through social and economic participation in the south-east region.

The Role

The general manager of the ISH will be a strong leader and visionary who will serve as the champion for the cause, unlocking opportunities and resources for people seeking asylum. As the custodian of the ASRC brand and culture and managing a small but growing team, success in this role will be determined by your ability to:

  • Be an influencer, building partnerships with local and state community organisations
  • Form relationships within community, government, steering groups and businesses leaders
  • Empower your team to support program delivery and champion wellbeing in the centre
  • Establish local governance and risk management frameworks across the Dandenong ISH
  • Develop, implement and maintain a successful values-aligned satellite site.

Ultimately, a measure of success in this position is that the ISH becomes recognised and valued as a gathering place for people seeking asylum and an access point for community activities, programs, services and events that positively impact lives.

Skills Required

You’re an experienced executive in the delivery of integrated community achieving success via your forward thinking, empathetic and strategic approach. You’re also able to demonstrate:

  • A strong commitment to social justice
  • Experience identifying sector development needs and opportunities with local partners
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with members, providers and community leaders
  • Management and coaching skills that create positive and high performing teams
  • Understanding or lived experience of the issues affecting people seeking asylum and the refugee community
