The National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse was formally announced in October 2021 on the third anniversary of the National Apology to Victims and Survivors of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse. The formation of the National Centre is a result of key recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The Centre will be survivor-focussed incorporating the voice and lived expertise of survivors of all life stages, backgrounds and communities. It will work in collaboration with major research institutions, state and commonwealth governments, service providers, schools, and law enforcement agencies.

The Centre is driven by leading expert organisations, Blue Knot Foundation, The Healing Foundation, and the Australian Childhood Foundation forming an Australia-first partnership that will commission critical research, raise community awareness, reduce stigma, and build capacity around policy, practice and services to support improved responses to victims and survivors and prevent child sexual abuse from occurring in the first place.

The Role

As a key member of the Centre’s leadership team you will lead government, philanthropic and community engagement strategies, leveraging relationships to advance the Centre’s vision and purpose. You will contribute to strategic planning and governance, ensuring all communications and stakeholder engagement activities are trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, transparent, targeted and effective.
Leading the engagement team you will grow the Centre’s influence, relationships, partnerships, profile and resources, to diversity income, and continuously improve fundraising, engagement and investment strategies to support financial sustainability and advance the vision and strategic objectives.

You will advance the Centre’s expertise and reputation by developing external engagement strategies to build resources and drive prevention, survivor recovery and healing strategies.

Skills Required

You have demonstrable commitment to social equity and a drive to create a fairer and more inclusive Australia. You have significant high level government relations, media, public relations and/or philanthropy experience gained in like-minded advocacy, education or campaign driven organisations, well known for negotiation facilitation, networking and fundraising.

You are an energetic and proactive leader, with specific experience in and supporting an organisation to enhance its capacity and effectiveness, managing a diverse range of partnerships and astutely managing risk. Additionally you have:

  • A tertiary qual. in media, journalism, government relations, communications or similar
  • Developed stakeholder engagement skills and an understanding of the political system
  • Researching and writing submissions, grants, reports and papers
  • Strategic planning to identify & critically evaluate advocacy tactics
