The Organisation

Equality Australia (EA) is a national LGBTIQ+ organisation, built from the successful ‘Yes’ marriage equality campaign, with the support of the Human Rights Law Centre. EA creates positive legal and social change to ensure LGBTIQ+ people are treated with dignity and respect.

EA works to ensure equality and to alleviate the discrimination and disadvantage LGBTIQ+ communities experience on a daily basis. EA works in partnership with affected communities and allies to achieve a fair and inclusive Australia for LGBTIQ+ people, their families and communities, and to build the power, voices and influence of our communities.

EA knows their team is most effective when it reflects the diversity of the communities they work with and encourages applicants from LGBTIQ+ communities, particularly transgender, non-binary and intersex people, and from a diverse range of ethnicities, language groups, abilities, religious backgrounds and experiences.

The Role

Working with the engagement director and a small dynamic team you will develop short and medium-term online integrated campaigns with an eye towards supporting LGBTIQ+ people, building long-term grassroots power and sustainable income. You will build a supporter base of LGBTIQ+ people and allies that engage in online and offline actions.

You will write, implement and analyse high quality online campaigns, writing for a range of audiences and online platforms including the digital element of the fundraising strategy, whilst managing the website. Specifically you will;

  • Develop content, including email blasts, web, social media and video content
  • Deliver campaigns that utilise traditional and new media to frame debates and provide our supporters opportunities to influence legal and social change
  • Engage with stakeholders, from LGBTIQ+ community members, allies, partners, academics and journalists

Skills Required

You have integrated campaign development expertise that has led to the building of a grassroots base as a means to effect social change and generate donations. You also have the ability to manage an organisation’s online public profile via excellent content management skills.

You are experienced in community engagement and building relationships, partnerships and networks between varied stakeholders such as LGBTIQ+ and First Nations communities, and communities of colour and faith. Overall you are;

  • Highly organised, and able to manage multiple projects without sacrificing quality
  • Proven to have the ability to work independently
  • Comfortable experimenting with new tactics and tools
