The Organisation

Coast Shelter is a progressive and dynamic organisation poised for its next phase of growth. They provide accommodation and support programs for people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or escaping domestic and family violence on the Central Coast of NSW. Operating for over 30 years, they have 10 crisis accommodation points which provide accommodation to over 200 men, women, families and youth every night.

Coast Shelter is widely recognised for the unique services offered which promotes inclusion, builds resilience and creates opportunities for recovery. Through a dedicated team of 88 staff and 280 volunteers, Coast Shelter also coordinate the provision of meals, laundry facilities, hampers and other services.

In addition to overseeing existing and proposed social enterprises, Coast Shelter continue to have significant growth plans at the forefront of their strategy.

The Role

Based in Gosford and reporting to the Board, and the CEO will have responsibility for guiding the organisation through its next stage of growth and development while continuing to progress the current breadth of programs and services.

The key areas of responsibility will be:

  • Providing leadership to an engaged team
  • Understand local community needs and ensure growth and sustainability of services
  • Ensuring the high quality of engagement and compliance of service and program delivery
  • Collaborating with all levels of government and demonstrating sector leadership
  • Ensuring strong financial and risk performance and high quality governance
  • Developing and implementing high level strategy

Skills Required

As the external face of the organisation, you are a senior executive with the vision and communication skills to lead Coast Shelter through its next stage of growth. You have a genuine passion for the sector and track record in leading teams to deliver highly targeted programs in a like-minded organisation.

Additionally, your experience includes:

  • Team leadership to drive organisational capability and change
  • Vision, with the ability to translate it into a strategy that’s deliverable and accountable
  • Diversification of income streams and the ability to build profitable partnerships
  • Politically savvy, with awareness of policy change/reforms in the sector
  • Overseeing the implementation of a quality accreditation process
  • Credibility, with the confidence to engage and deepen stakeholder relationships
  • Commercial acumen balanced by a high level of integrity and engagement

Compliance checking will include Police Clearance and Working with Children (WWCC).
