The Organisation

Butterfly Foundation is Australia’s national charity for eating disorders and body image issues, providing a voice for those affected and the people who care for them. Eating disorders are severe and complex mental illnesses with physical complications, and the medical, psychological, physical and social consequences can be long term and for many, life threatening.

The Sunshine Coast Eating Disorders Access Trial (SCEDAT) is Australia’s first trial of a best practice evidence-based approach to eating disorders treatment in a primary health network. SCEDAT is an initiative of the Butterfly Foundation, working in partnership with local primary health networks to provide increased access to dedicated treatments for people in the region, increased information and support to front-line health professionals and to influence future policy on care pathways for people living with eating disorders.

The Role

Working as part of an integrated project team, you will support participants of the trial; both local people living with eating disorders, and health professionals within the region with an interest in early detection and intervention for those with eating disorders. You will conduct the majority of your work via phone/video conference and specifically you will:

  • Support participants with on-boarding through screening, referral and triage processes
  • Coordinate care to support clients throughout the trial and monitor and review progress
  • Assist treatment teams to develop care pathways and implement action plans
  • Connect with and support practice nurses and GPs to expand involvement in the trial
  • Identify areas for GP support and training and develop/deliver appropriate resources

Skills Required

You are a health professional (nurse, social worker, psychologist, counsellor, case manager) with experience in mental health, clinical care coordination and clinical administration. You have current working knowledge of the Queensland health system and:

  • Experience in the delivery of services coordinated across multiple providers
  • Proven ability in stakeholder engagement, establishing and maintaining relationships
  • Familiarity with the mental health system, services, providers and eating disorders MBS items
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in data collation, review and reporting
  • Health discipline tertiary qualification and professional registration

Compliance checking will include Police Clearance and Working with Children (WWCC).
