The Organisation

Canteen is a highly regarded not for profit, and the only organisation of its kind in Australia, with one of the most recognisable campaigns – National Bandanna Day.

For more than 35 years, Canteen has been supporting young people dealing with their own diagnosis, a close family member’s cancer or the death of a loved one. Canteen’s continues the mission to be in a young person’s corner when cancer crashes into their world through research into the emotional and social impacts of cancer, evidence-based services and a belief in the importance of building the Canteen brand.

The Role

This role is primarily responsible for driving Canteen’s content strategy from inception to development and effective dissemination. The position is responsible for achieving media coverage and delivering high quality and well managed communications that resonate with Canteen’s varied target audiences while adhering to organisational messaging and brand consistency. You will contribute significantly to the delivery of Canteen’s brand strategy across awareness, understanding and perception pillars.

Responsibilities additionally include:

  • Develop and manage the multi-channel content calendar
  • Measure and report on content impact using analytics
  • Identify and conceptualise compelling and engaging stories across the organisation
  • Manage and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and agencies
  • Lead your team to drive performance and output

Skills Required

You are a story-teller and an accomplished communications professional who has the ability to combine strategic, creative and analytical thinking to lead the organisation’s content and messaging. Along with relevant tertiary qualification or experience in a similar role, you are able to demonstrate:

  • Proven track record in developing and delivering effective content strategies
  • Ability to identify and develop newsworthy stories that gain media coverage
  • Use of data and insights to inform your communications strategies
  • Excellent copy writing and proof-reading skills
  • Outstanding stakeholder management capabilities
