About the Nexus Corporate Team

You will be part of the team of corporate support staff.  This includes Finance, Clients Services and People and Culture.  These are the services that support operational staff deliver direct support to clients.

The Communications Officer Role 

Reporting to the CEO, the Communications Officer will be responsible for assisting in the efficient delivery of marketing and communication activities to help the business achieve it’s goals laid out in the Nexus Inc Strategy Plan. This includes coordinating and organising events for Nexus.

Primary Tasks

Media, Publicity and Communication

  • Work in collaboration with the CEO to manage publicity and media activities, including handling event enquires and community and organisational requests for promotional involvement.
  • Contribute to key advertising, communication, sponsorship and media activities.
  • Produce and distribute event correspondence and promotional material.
  • Assist in website maintenance, including but not limited to banner updates, content and images.
  • Assist in Intranet updates, including the promotion of events and important Nexus Inc information.
  • Plan and coordinate social media activities on agreed platforms.
  • Maintain the production of a range of publications including newsletters (Nexus Ink), brochures, posters, staff updates and the Nexus Inc annual report.

Communication Strategies

  • Develop an annual promotion, event and marketing calendar for Nexus which will support meeting Nexus Strategic objectives.
  • Work with the CEO to develop, implement and evaluate all Nexus Inc external communication strategies to promote Nexus Inc to key stakeholders, including government, peak bodies, service providers, media and carers.
  • Work with and across units in Nexus Inc to enhance and promote effective communication; promote cross-unit programs; and ensure consistency and quality in communication of Nexus Inc key priorities and programs to all employees.

Events Management

  • Project manage and coordinate events for Nexus Inc, in a manner which promotes and encourages participation from a range of stakeholders and promotes and generates support for Nexus Inc’s various business units.
  • Ensure all events run effectively and within the allocated budget.
  • Identify and manage suppliers of marketing materials, catering, and other events management logistics.
  • Identify and manage events personnel including Nexus Inc staff, volunteers and contractors during an event where required.
  • Identify and evaluate suitable events/expos to enable Nexus Inc exposure.
  • Develop annual events plans and calendar.

Relationship Development

  • Contribute to key advertising, communication, sponsorship and media activities.
  • In consultation with the CEO, identify opportunities for new partnerships and sponsorship.
  • Identify alternative funding sources such as philanthropic and grant funding.
  • Build and maintain relationships with related organisations and groups to ensure suitable consultation for promotion activities.

Reporting and Resources

  • Prepare accurate and timely communications reports as directed by the CEO.
  • Provide written and verbal presentations as required.
  • Undertake an evaluation of each event, maintaining accurate data, including reviewing and reporting against the objectives of the various events.
  • Maintain current documents, statistics and fact sheets on the Nexus Inc website.
  • Assist with the management and production of information and resources.
  • Develop and maintain communication templates for Nexus Inc and uphold the use of the Nexus Inc style guide across the business.

Team Work

  • Demonstrate an active, dedicated commitment to the Nexus Inc Mission and Vision, core principles and code of conduct, following Nexus Policies and Procedures at all times.
  • Actively seek to understand, communicate and support the Nexus Inc Vision and organisational goals to all stakeholders, internally and externally.
  • Participate in Nexus Inc initiatives, projects and events.
  • Attend staff meetings and unit meetings.
  • Assist in cross-unit project activity.
  • Assist with the general operations of the organisation.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of how a positive approach to the rights of people with disabilities might affect your work.
  • Tertiary qualification in communications or relevant discipline, coupled with experience in communications, event management or public relations.
  • High level of skill and in depth understanding of marketing and communications.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving high quality outcomes in events management and project management.
  • Demonstrated experience in website maintenance.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects that meet deadlines and remain within budget.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communications skills, with a high level of proficiency in content writing and ability to write to a high standard.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement an external communications strategy.
  • Excellent computer skills and understanding of database management and online research tools.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate and liaise with a wide cross section of people, including internal staff, partners, service providers and the wider community.
  • Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector (Desirable).

Mandatory Employment Checks

Current National Police Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card (Employee Type) and Driver’s License is an essential requirement to work in the above areas of Nexus. Successful candidates will be requested to complete a pre-employment Medical Assessment for their suitability to perform the inherent roll requirements.
