We are looking to fill three vacant positions on our Board they are general committee member roles as well as specific positions including: Chair, Secretary, Treasurer.

ABOUT NECCHI

NECCHI (Newlands and East Coburg Community Hubs Inc) is a community run and operated not for profit organisation that operates out of two unique Neighbourhood houses located in Newlands and East Coburg. NECCHI is committed to delivering bold initiatives to advance social justice and sustainability, and to make the East Coburg and Newlands Neighbourhood Houses the best they can be to support their communities.

OUR PROGRAMS

NECCHI delivers a range of programs, partnerships and room hire for and with the community.

  • Community Partnerships including Neighbours United for Climate Action, Sound School, Food Angels, Friends of the Merri Creek
  • Spaces for hire and community programming
  • Advocacy and Auspice program
  • Social Justice programs such as a commitment to working with Wurundjeri Council on land education programs
  • Thriving community garden and urban food education
  • Creative arts residencies

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for community -minded, innovative and creative folk to join our board, and we are looking for people who have experience or interest in: community development, social justice and advocacy, accountancy, governance. We’re committed to promoting strong community leadership and are willing to invest in governance training for people who join our committee with a view to succession planning for committee executive roles.

The organisation is in a strong financial position and the Board is working closely with the Manager to build NECCHI’s profile. This is an exciting time to join the committee as we are about to develop a new 3-year Strategic Plan which will include a Reconciliation Action Plan and Climate Action strategy.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

The Board ensures NECCHI fulfils its mission and purpose, remains solvent and complies with all its legal, financial and ethical obligations. Board members provide sound governance and effective leadership through ensuring NECCHI has:

  • Clear strategic direction and achievable plans in line with its purpose and values.
  • Adequate resources and personnel to carry out its work.
  • An effective policy framework to guide its work, implement its plans and meet its obligations.
  • Adequate internal controls to ensure sound financial management, risk management and legal compliance.
  • Adequate internal accountability mechanisms to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and to monitor organisational performance.

YOUR COMMITMENT:

  • Prepare for, attend and contribute to bi- monthly committee meetings (meetings are 90 minutes).
  • Actively participate on at least one subcommittee or working group.
  • As needed, participate in consultation processes or liaise with MPs, local councillors or government officers.
  • Attend governance training as needed.
  • All members are also actively encouraged to get involved with events and activities at the two Neighbourhood houses.
