An opportunity has become available for a dynamic leader in Mental Health to help lead a Step-up/Step-down Service. The Joondalup Mental Health Step-up/step-down Service (JMHSS) is a 22 bed, (max 28 day stay) facility that provides a step up/step down option for people who are becoming unwell or are still recovering from an acute illness and need a short period of additional support and consolidation to complement their treatment and support.

The service site aims to prevent avoidable inpatient admissions. During their stay consumers are assisted to develop a relapse prevention or wellness plan. The JMHSS is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. JMHSS accepts referrals from all of WA country and metropolitan areas with the exception of the Great Southern Region.

The opportunity on offer:

  • Full Time, Maximum Term Contract until 30 June 2021
  • Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm and on-call duties as required

As the Service Manager you will:

  • Initiate, lead and coordinate strategic partnerships within the community including local government and health and welfare providers
  • Responsible for overall management and development of the JMHSS step-up step-down program
  • Monitor performance, ongoing evaluation and review service outcomes, including; monitoring progress against financial targets and ensuring priorities are established and met
  • Ensure practice development (supervision), training and skill development is provided to all members of staff at JMHSS

What you will need to bring to the role:

As the Service Manager, your experience managing a growing team in a rapidly changing environment will be pivotal to your overall success. You will be someone who is able to approach tasks in a calm and logical manner and has extensive experience in partnership development. You will be able to make hard decisions when required but your management style will be more about building your team members capacity, coaching and supporting them to develop their skills and become leaders of the future.

Other skills we are looking for:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of psychosocial recovery services in step-up/step-down settings and/or of mental health programs in the Region
  • Understands the role clinical teams play in recovery-based services
  • Has experience managing mental health or similar services in a residential or clinical environment
  • Ability to form relationships with external organisations and partnerships within the Region
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to work with individuals from diverse and unique backgrounds
  • Be an honest and transparent individual
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (highly desirable)

Mandatory requirements:

  • Leadership experience in mental health or similar residential setting
  • Current WA Working with Children Check
  • Australian Working Rights
  • Drivers licence
  • Police check (refer to PD) – disclosable outcomes considered
  • Suitable Vehicle – An Insured and registered vehicle is required for work use
