This position is a designated role developed in response to COVID-19 as part of the COVID- 19 mental health in-reach services for Older Australians. The overall objective of the initiative is to reduce the disproportional impact of physical distancing measures associated with COVID-19 on the mental health and wellbeing of older people.

The Older Persons Mental Health Nurse will join our multidisciplinary team in delivering a range of integrated stepped care mental health services from Neami’s Living and Learning Centre at Strathpine. The Living and Learning Centre operates within the Prince Charles Hospital catchment and will be open Monday to Friday 8am-5pm with some weekend and evening programming capacity in response to identified need. The Centre has been funded by the Metro North PHN as part of their Stepped Care suite of strategies.

The Centre Team is made up of Clinicians, Well Being Coaches and Lived Experience Workers.

About the Role

  • Part Time
  • Maximum Term Contract until 31 December 2021
  • Location: Strathpine
  • Between Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm (Flexible)

Core duties

  • Assess and screen referrals using appropriate tools, policies and procedures
  • Engage consumers and develop trusting and professional relationships
  • Focus interventions of connecting and reconnecting older people to appropriate services, support and social networks (including where services may have been disrupted by the pandemic)
  • Coordinate client therapeutic interventions by formulating client plans in collaboration with the client, family/carers, staff and external workers and agencies, including making internal and external referrals as needed

Mandatory requirements:

  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Australian Working Rights
  • A current drivers licence
  • Police check (refer to PD) – disclosable outcomes considered
  • The Mental Health Nurse will be expected to be Registered Nurse registered through APHRA with extensive mental health experience. Being credentialed, or working towards accreditation, with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN) is highly desirable.
