About the Role

  • Part Time 0.8 FTE – Negotiable
  • Maximum Term Contract until 31 July 2022
  • Various locations based within the Inner East, Outer East and Northern Metropolitan Melbourne Region
  • Monday to Friday hours, some after hours and weekend work as required.
  • May be required to use own vehicle at times

Neami National have been commissioned by the Eastern Melbourne PHN to deliver suicide prevention services and activities throughout the Inner East, Outer East and Northern Metropolitan Melbourne Region. The program delivers and a suite of capacity building and activities including, training and wellbeing groups as well as bereavement counselling for people impacted by suicide.

Lived Experience Workers (LEW) are integral members of the team who present community focused suicide prevention training and also draw on their own direct experience by sharing their insights with workplaces and community groups. The L.E.W. will contribute to the ongoing development of training workshops and service delivery. This role requires a self-driven, resilient, enthusiastic and highly energised individual who is confident in addressing large and small groups of community members with a message that challenges and inspires. The L.E.W. must able to draw on their own resilience and be active in managing their wellbeing.

Our preferred candidate will have exceptional presentation skills and confidence to speak publicly showing empathy, compassion and respect. The role requires the candidate to have a solid understanding of the impacts of suicide and a working understanding suicide prevention theory would be welcomed.

Core duties

  • Ensure lived experience consultation and input is included across LifeConnect activities and services
  • Facilitate programs for at-risk groups
  • Review workforce development training materials to ensure the important narrative of lived experience informs activities
  • Engage in postvention service provision in the form of care co-ordination to individuals and groups to provide service navigation and referral support
  • Engage in postvention support groups for people who have been impacted by suicide.
  • Participate in social media campaigns to address the stigma surrounding suicide

What will you bring to the role?

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating groups
  • Confidence in addressing large and small groups of community members
  • Ability to effectively perform in an environment of change, to be creative when problem solving and work to timelines
  • A strong commitment to consumer rights and participation in their community
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of trauma informed care

Mandatory requirements:

  • Lived experience of the impacts of suicide and demonstrated experience of recovery
  • Current Victorian Working with Children Check
  • Australian Working Rights
  • Drivers licence
  • Comprehensively insured motor vehicle for work purposes
  • Police check (refer to PD) – disclosable outcomes considered
  • A Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme Check will be undertaken prior to commencement
