The Nature Conservation Council of NSW is the state’s peak environment organisation, representing over 160 local, state and national environment organisations in NSW.
POSITON PURPOSE:
The purpose of this role is to win concrete results for nature in accordance with NCC’s priority issues and strategic objectives by:
- Preparing high quality research, situation analysis, and power analysis to inform campaign objectives on issues that align to NCC’s priorities;
- Co-ordinating NCC campaign team members to develop strategic campaign plans;
- Driving campaign actions that overcome political and other barriers;
- Engaging supporters, member groups, donors and the community to defend nature; and
- Fostering and coordinating NCC strategic alliances.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY
- Design and deliver strategic plans to achieve concrete impacts, aligned with our goals;
- Identify opportunities to progress NCC’s policy agenda, and respond to emerging threats to nature, climate or other NCC interests;
- Foster strategic alliances to pursue NCCs campaign objectives.
- Engage supporters, member groups, donors and the community through practical and meaningful campaign actions designed to make a tangible difference to campaign objectives;
- Compile real-world policy solutions by engaging industry experts and movement thinkers.
- Write clear, compelling communications with all target audiences to shape the public debate
- Embody values of creativity, boldness, and an appetite for risk-taking, and contribute to an inclusive and caring work culture.
- Seek out opportunities to work in solidarity and centre the voices of First Nations peoples in our campaigns.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Talent & Capabilities
- A sound knowledge and understanding of the NSW political process, power dynamics, and key players;
- A strong ability to design campaign strategies and tactics that get results;
- An ability to build and maintain strong relationships and collaborative partnerships with allies, member groups and other stakeholders;
- A talent for crafting clear and compelling campaign communications.
Skills & Experience
- Significant (5+ years) legislative or issue advocacy campaign experience with a political office, not-for-profit, trade union or similar organisation. Note NCC is a non-partisan organisation and welcomes candidates from across the political spectrum who share our core values.
Extra Points for
- Experience with NSW native forests policy, laws, history and stakeholders;
- Existing working relationships with a variety of MPs, staff and media in NSW Parliament; and
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental planning, law, policy or science.
