Senior Teacher - Kabulwarnamyo Outstation

Nawarddeken Academy
  • Starting Term 1, 2021 (Negotiable)

An incredible teaching opportunity is now available to take on within our growing organisation, based at Kabulwarnamyo community within the Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area (IPA), in remote western Arnhem Land. The Nawarddeken Academy is seeking an educator who can develop strong relationships within the Kabulwarnamyo community in a region that is exceptional in its natural and cultural value and breathtaking in its beauty.

The Nawarddeken Academy was established in August 2015, at the request of local Indigenous elders who expressed a desire to educate their children on-country and create learning experiences based on the unique languages, culture and environment of the Warddewardde (Arnhem Land Plateau). The Academy is currently registered to teach students from Transition to Year 7 at Kabulwarnamyo, however, the school also enrols and delivers education for older students providing a post primary or middle school curriculum where required.

The position of Senior Teacher will be responsible for overseeing and implementing the day-to-day running of the Academy under the current policies, procedures and management arrangements. This includes the management and support of Academy employees in achieving their assigned tasks through mentoring, guidance, provision of staff meetings and arrangement of professional development opportunities. The Senior Teacher will have a teaching load to support the classroom teachers in the delivery of education assessment and reporting as required.

In 2021, it is expected the Nawarddeken Academy will expand to facilitate the provision of education at Manmoyi and Mamadawerre. This position will involve regular travel to these communities to assist in the coordination of the establishment of the two new schools and support the classroom teachers employed at the respective sites.

Whilst being extraordinarily remote, the lifestyle is fantastic and the work challenging yet personally rewarding. This is truly a rare opportunity to work at the cutting edge with an exceptional Indigenous organisation.
